What would you ask your dad?

I think my dad and I have a good relationship. But I’m 26 now, technically I’ve been an adult for a while, and I’d like to know him better as a person instead of just as a father. I don’t see my family nearly as often as I used to since I moved from Delaware to New York. Unfortunately, I predict that distancing from my family will only become greater with time.

I’m going home this weekend and I want to ask my dad about his personal life, history, childhood, his life before mom, what makes their marriage work, what he still wants to do in life, and a dozen other questions. I want stories. I want to create a record of these stories to share with my kids some day. I never got to truly know my grandparents as real people and I wish I hadn’t let that opportunity slip. I’d like to interview my other family members too, but this weekend I know I’m getting some alone time with the pops. This will probably be an ongoing project. I’m putting together a list of questions to interview him.

I started drawing on post-its when I was working at a heroin research lab at Columbia University. When I was in school I studied Neuroscience. Now I’m out of that field and in the competitive worlds of commercial acting, tv writing, and putting stuff out for free on the internet!
